Mayor of San Sebastián denounces obstacles in his management

Javier Jiménez, mayor of San Sebastián, is aware that some abandoned schools in his municipality could be used for other purposes to benefit citizens. However, as he indicated, either they do not grant them to his administration or they put in work to be able to acquire them.

“We intended for the Head Start programs, which are in rented facilities, to move them to those schools. But, what the Government gave us was a renewable contract from year to year and had a clause that, if the Government needed that property, we agreed to give it up in 30 days. We did not agree,” Jiménez explained when speaking with Primera Hora .

“It is a shame that many schools are abandoned, instead of giving them to a municipality that can develop different projects, help entrepreneurs, or change the concept to housing, for example,” he added.

Regarding the conditions of the sidewalks, he indicated that $2.5 million of funds were allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA, in English). “We submitted them more than two years ago, but the permit process, bureaucracy and even ridiculous requests are still going around,” he reacted.
